The University will test the emergency sirens and Alert Carolina System on Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2018, between noon and 1 p.m. The sirens and messaging system are tested regularly throughout the year to make sure the equipment and notification processes work as planned.

Beacon Program Seeking "Beacon Champions"
The UNC Hospitals Beacon Program is looking for members of the UNC Health Care community to volunteer to serve as “Beacon Champions”. Beacon Champions are employees who work directly with patients and are willing to help promote the services of the Beacon program.

Help Stuff the Bus
The Stuff the Bus campaign collects school supplies for children in need in Orange, Wake and now Johnston County schools. Supplies will be collected between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m., Friday, Aug. 10. Donations for Orange County Schools may be made in front of the NC Women's Hospital. Donations for Wake County Schools may be made in the lot adjacent to the UNC REX Patient Tower entrance.

Coming to North Carolina: NC REAL ID
Beginning on Oct. 1, 2020, federal agencies will enforce tougher security standards at airport check-ins, federal buildings, military installations and nuclear sites. The N.C. REAL ID is just like a traditional license or ID but has a gold star at the top, and will make more convenient to board a commercial airplane or visit a military base or other federal facility.

OWASA Water Disinfection
Starting in March, OWASA will temporarily use chlorine instead of chloramines to disinfect our domestic water. OWASA customers may notice chlorine taste and odor in March and early April due to this temporary change in disinfection.

Annual Touch a Truck Fundraiser rescheduled for April 29
Due to rain, Boy Scout Troop 39’s Touch a Truck fundraiser was rescheduled for April 29. The event will be held from noon – 4:00 PM at the Friday Center. The event benefits the UNC Children's Hospital.
