All UNC Medical Center staff must be flu vaccine compliant by 8 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 12 as a condition of employment. As of 5 p.m. Oct. 10, there are 6,607 flu compliant employees, a compliance rate of 51%. You may find more details about our flu vaccination compliance program here.

Trauma elevator closed for three weeks beginning Aug. 20
On Monday, Aug. 20, Plant Engineering will begin work on the Trauma Elevator located in Women’s and Children’s Hospital to create a new stop for 4th floor Anderson Pavilion in conjunction with the Cardio-Thoracic Intensive Care Unit project. The Trauma elevator will be out of service for approximately three weeks.

Patient Safety Awareness Week Kicks Off with Webcast
For all of us here at UNC Hospitals, every day is Patient Safety Day, and from March 11 – 17, we will be able to renew our full commitment to this during Patient Safety Awareness Week. This year’s theme is “United for Patient Safety.” To kick off the week we will be showing a Live IHI/NPSF webcast with nationally known experts discussing the importance of speaking up from the perspectives of clinicians, staff, and patients and families.

Providers: New General Medicine Teaching Service Open at Hillsborough Hospital
The Bondurant-Ehringhaus Service for Teaching (BEST) started accepting patients on Sunday, June 24 at UNC Hospitals Hillsborough Campus. This new adult, general medicine teaching service with a cardiopulmonary emphasis, led by the Department of Medicine Chief Residents, will enhance the ability of the Hillsborough hospital to accept a greater number of high-acuity admissions and transfers, especially from the UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill. Exceptional clinical educators from the Department of Medicine were selected to rotate as attendings on the BEST Team.

New Professional Business Attire Policy, Effective April 1
On April 1, UNC Medical Center will implement a new Professional Business Attire policy. The policy is designed to create standards for professional appearance in order to foster a positive working environment, promote workplace safety, and inspire confidence in quality care service delivery. This policy applies to all personnel performing services for/at UNC Medical Center, including volunteers, research personnel, students, staff, and providers at all levels.
