Five-Year Review of Joseph Piven, MD, director, Carolina Institute for Development Disabilities
An ad hoc committee has been appointed to undertake a routine administrative review of the leadership provided by Joseph Piven, MD, in his position as Director of the Carolina Institute for Developmental Disabilities. The five-year review is a standard procedure of the School of Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The review will take place over the next four to five weeks.

Boggess, Pardo-Manuel de Villena tabbed as first Smithies Investigators
Kim Boggess, MD, professor of obstetrics and gynecology, and Fernando Pardo-Manuel de Villena, PhD, professor of genetics, were selected as the inaugural Oliver Smithies Investigators, a program created to recognize senior research faculty members at the UNC School of Medicine who have made major contributions within and beyond their disciplines but who have not yet been appointed to distinguished professorships.

Search Committee seeks chair for Department of Surgery
Wesley Burks, MD, Executive Dean, UNC School of Medicine is announcing the appointment of a search committee seeking a Chair for the Department of Surgery. Tony Meyer, MD, PhD, will be stepping down from his administrative role as Chair of the Department of Surgery when the search is completed, but will remain as a valued member of the faculty.
