Ivester appointed as UNC Hospitals' Chief Medical Officer and Vice President of Medical Affairs
Thomas Ivester, MD, MPH, Associate Professor in Maternal Fetal Medicine, has been selected as UNC Hospitals' Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and VP of Medical Affairs (VPMA). Dr. Ivester will begin this appointment on April 24, 2017, and report to Gary Park, President of UNC Hospitals, with a matrix reporting relationship to Dr. Tony Lindsey, UNC Health Care's Chief Medical Officer.

Enhanced Recovery Program at UNC: Improving perioperative care for patients across North Carolina
The Enhanced Recovery Program is a collaborative, multidisciplinary initiative between the departments of anesthesiology and surgery to improve the perioperative care of patients at UNC. The first Enhanced Recovery pathway was implemented in July 2014. Over the next year, it is anticipated that the Enhanced Recovery program will have reached over 1,000 patients. One of the very first patients to go through an Enhanced Recovery pathway at UNC reflects on his surgical experience one year later.

Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance
UNC Medical Center is hosting a two-day event for pregnancy and infant loss awareness month on Tuesday, October 16 and Wednesday, October 17, 2018. This event will feature several activities intended to remember loved ones, honor families who have experienced this loss, and educate practitioners and community members about pregnancy and infant loss.

UNC’s Department of Medicine introduces new telemetry protocol
Medicine’s telemetry protocol has been replaced by a new model aimed at improving the value of patient care achieved per unit of cost. This is the first project to be approved and implemented by the Department of Medicine’s Value Care Action Group.

Pedaling for a Purpose and the Simple Joy
The 2017 Raven Rock Ramble raised over $30,000 last month to assist kidney patients with emergency needs, while also promoting awareness of organ donation. The annual event celebrates the joy of cycling after one man’s kidney transplant. It also gives back to a continuum of care at the UNC Kidney Center.
