Benson R. Wilcox, M.D., 1932-2010
Benson Reid Wilcox, M.D., a distinguished heart surgeon who served 29 years as chief of the UNC Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery, died May 11, 2010, at his home after a courageous battle with brain cancer. He was 77.

UNC honored at 2013 State Employees Combined Campaign Recognition Event at Governor's Mansion
On Tuesday, Feb. 18, UNC accepted the Gold Chairman's Award for university systems with more than 5,000 employees. The School of Medicine's Becky Medford, Senior Executive Assistant to the Chief of Staff and Vice Dean for Finance & Administration, was at the Governor's Mansion to accept the award.

Dr. Egan receives $1.47 million grant for lung transplant research
The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute has awarded Dr. Thomas M. Egan, a professor of surgery at the University of North Carolina, a $1.47 million, two-year grant for research on perfusion and ventilation of lungs outside the body before transplant. The research could lead to a significant increase in the number of lungs available for transplant.
