N.C. Children's Hospital is one of the best children's hospitals in the nation, according to U.S. News Media Group's 2010 edition of America's Best Children's Hospitals, the most extensive listing of its kind. The publication has recognized N.C. Children’s Hospital as ninth in the nation among those caring for children with respiratory disorders and 23rd for diabetes and endocrinology.

Benson R. Wilcox, M.D., 1932-2010
Benson Reid Wilcox, M.D., a distinguished heart surgeon who served 29 years as chief of the UNC Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery, died May 11, 2010, at his home after a courageous battle with brain cancer. He was 77.
