Benson R. Wilcox, M.D., 1932-2010
Benson Reid Wilcox, M.D., a distinguished heart surgeon who served 29 years as chief of the UNC Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery, died May 11, 2010, at his home after a courageous battle with brain cancer. He was 77.

It is with great sadness that we report the death of Dr. H. Robert Brashear, Jr. Dr. Brashear joined UNC Orthopaedics in 1953 and his legacy of excellence in teaching of orthopaedic residents and medical students remains with our training program today.

The UNC Department of Family Medicine was recently ranked third in the nation by U.S. News & World Report in its annual survey of medical schools. It was the highest ranked Family Medicine department in the eastern United States.

Health Sciences Library names room for Dr. Wilcox
The UNC Health Sciences Library plans to rename its Historical Collections Reading Room as “The Benson Reid Wilcox Historical Collections Reading Room” in recognition of Dr. Benson Wilcox.

Glickman named 2010 Institute of Medicine 'Anniversary Fellow'

Cleverley & Associates has named UNC Hospitals one of the country’s top 100 hospitals in its 2009 Community Value Index ranking. The CVI was created to “provide a measure of the value that a hospital provides to its community,” according to a company press release.
