The UNC Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology welcomes Todd Baron, MD, a nationally known advanced endoscopist. Dr. Baron comes to UNC from the Mayo Clinic.

UNC to Celebrate National Doctor’s Day in April
In lieu of celebrating National Doctors Day on its traditional date, March 30, which conflicts with a University holiday, we have decided to dedicate an entire week in April to recognizing the contributions of our physicians. From April 8 to April 14th, Faculty Affairs will be hosting a series of events and activities for our physicians, including wellness activity sign-ups and a drawing. More details to follow.

Dragon SQL Upgrade – Monday, Nov. 13
A scheduled upgrade to the Dragon SQL server will occur on Monday, Nov. 13 at 10 p.m. During this time the providers using Dragon dictation will be able to login and dictate with Dragon with no issues. The upgrade will take 1-2 hours to complete.

Deadline for proposals for Quality Improvement Seed Grants
The UNC Institute for Healthcare Quality Improvement (IHQI) will award five $50,000 grants to support quality improvement projects to be conducted July 1, 2014 – June 30, 2015. Proposals are due Feb. 3, 2014.

Caring for Children in Haiti: 2014
Joshua Alexander, MD, director of pediatric rehabilitation at the N.C. Children’s Hospital and associate professor at UNC Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, will be caring once again for disabled children at the Zanmi Beni Orphanage in Haiti this May, along with Timothy Sanford, MD, a medical resident in PM&R. Zanmi Beni was created to care for physically and/or mentally handicapped orphans, who were displaced by the devastating earthquake in January 2010.

$50,000 Innovation Pilot Awards - apply now!
The Center for Innovation of the UNC School of Medicine and UNC Health Care is accepting applications for the 2014 $50,000 Innovation Pilot Awards. All UNC School of Medicine and UNC Health Care employees are eligible to apply. Applications are due by Jan. 6, 2014. As many as four awards will be announced in mid-February.
