Medicine’s Value-Based Action Group Introduces Specialized Inpatient Diabetes Management Services
Hospitalized patients with diabetes are dependent on hospital staff to monitor blood glucose, administer medications and deliver meals in a coordinated manner. Inconsistency in the timing of these tasks can increase the risk for hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia. The UNC Department of Medicine’s Value Care Action Group (VCAG) has been working with the division of endocrinology and metabolism to improve glycemic control for hospitalized patients. New services recently introduced are ensuring the safety of patient care and decreasing the length of stay at UNC Medical Center.

Ground Floor Corridor Closed for Elevator Lobby Refurbishment Project
Service to elevators BT-2 and BT-5 will resume on Monday, Jan. 8. However, there will be access to the ground floor from elevator BT-1 through the duration of this phase (Wednesday, Jan. 31).

Clinical Research Nursing has officially been recognized as a specialty practice. Since there are many Clinical Research Nurses here at UNC-Chapel Hill (and in the surrounding Triangle area), there has been some interest in starting a local chapter of the "The International Association of Clinical Research Nurses (IACRN)."

Visitor Restrictions begin Nov. 19 for the Newborn Critical Care Center, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, 5 Children’s/Intermediate Care, Bone Marrow Transplant Unit and their waiting areas at UNC Hospitals
Due to an increase in the number of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) cases in the community, children 11 years of age and younger are prohibited from visiting the Newborn Critical Care Center, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, 5 Children’s/Intermediate Care, Bone Marrow Transplant Unit and their waiting areas at UNC Hospitals effective November 19 to help ensure the safety of our patients. Children 11 years of age and younger who are in good health may currently visit other areas of UNC Hospitals.
