As the number of observed flu cases increases, to ensure the safety of our patients, children less than 12 years of age will be prohibited from visiting inpatients and inpatient waiting rooms at UNC Hospitals (including the Chapel Hill, Hillsborough and Wakebrook campuses, but excluding inpatient Hospice) and are prohibited from perioperative waiting rooms at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill and Hillsborough beginning Monday, Jan. 6, 2020.

Bernie Sanders Rally on UNC Campus - Sept. 19
​The political candidate will hold a rally on UNC Campus September 19 starting at 5:30 p.m. at Bell Tower Amphitheater. Heavy pedestrian and vehicular traffic is expected throughout the afternoon and evening. This may be especially heavy along Emergency Room Drive. Please allow extra time when traveling to and from the hospital.

Patient Safety reporting through SAFE can now be accessed from a patient’s chart in Epic@UNC. If you access SAFE through the patient’s chart, you will already be logged-in to SAFE and the patient’s MRN and name fields will automatically populate once you’ve completed the required fields.

Physician Office Building to be named for Dean Jeffrey Houpt, MD
The UNC Physician Office Building, located adjacent to the North Carolina Cancer Hospital, will be renamed the Houpt Building in honor of Jeffrey L. Houpt, MD. Houpt served as Dean of the UNC School of Medicine and vice chancellor of medical affairs at UNC from 1996 until 2004. In 1998, when the UNC Health Care system was created by the North Carolina General Assembly, Houpt was appointed CEO.

Steiner Named Associate Chief Medical Officer UNC Medical Center
