On Feb. 14, Epic@UNC refreshed the Value Care banner to flag the calendar year 2019 NGACO patients who are aligned to our Medicare Next Generation ACO (NGACO). The Value Care banner identifies NGACO patients and alerts providers, clinic staff, schedulers, and care managers that NGACO services are available to help manage their care. Details here.

A New Pre-Registration Team is on the Way!
Utilizing the Epic@UNC Patient Estimator, the new Pre-Registration team will verify insurance, create an estimate and call the patient to collect any patient liability. The team will work from a workqueue containing scheduled procedures up to 30 days out and will continue to expand in scope by service line and entity. Our goal is to increase point of service collections and improve the patient experience.

Accelerated Epic@UNC Training option for providers with Epic 2010, 2012 experience
If you are a physician and used Epic 2010 or 2012 for Inpatient, Ambulatory, or Surgery at a previous health care facility, you may complete a form requesting the option of taking an online assessment in lieu of attending an instructor-led class in certain courses.

‘Dose Verify – Cosign Required’ is a new MAR action. Using ‘Dose Verify – Cosign Required’ action does not require a medication scan, will force a co-signature, and it will populate the dual signature on the MAR. This MAR action should be used to document an independent double-check of the heparin dose when the heparin correlation or Anti Xa value is therapeutic.

Adjustments may be needed to label paper when printing from Epic@UNC
At Epic@UNC Go-Live, you may need to make a minor change to how paper is oriented for some printers used to print 3X10 Label Sheets. If the information on your label sheet is out of alignment, rotate the paper in the label tray of the appropriate printer in your department.

Effective Monday, Dec. 12, all Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) will see an optional check box in their notes activity for outpatient encounters (including prep for surgery). APPs should use the guidelines of their respective departments as to whether or not it is necessary for the note to be co-signed in outpatient encounters.
