Fake CDC Emails Warning of Flu Pandemic Push Ransomware
ISD’s Information Security Division has received reports of phishing emails that claim to be from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warning of flu pandemic. Attached to the emails is a malicious attachment that when opened will install the GandCrab v5.2 Ransomware on the target's computer.

Finalizing the Wireless Site Survey
Beginning the week of Oct. 2, ISD will finalize the wireless site survey originally conducted at UNC Medical Center in June. Four individuals will conduct the surveys, which should take about two weeks to complete.

Google searches may result in blocked sites
UNC Health Care’s web filtering software blocks all online advertisements, including Google ads. When you search for a web site through Google, if the site comes up with a yellow “Ad” box next to it, it will be blocked if you click directly on this link.

Hackers attack UNC-based mammography database
On Friday, Sept. 25, the UNC School of Medicine will begin notifying women statewide whose Social Security numbers and other personal data may have been exposed when hackers breached the security of a database containing information recorded as part of a mammography research project.
