Starting at 7 a.m. on Monday, March 2, Adult Rapid Response calls at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill will no longer be announced overhead. Hospital operators will be notifying Adult Rapid Response team members of emergent situations by both Vocera and pager. This change in practice will result in a quieter environment and will decrease the anxiety that patients and families experience when hearing overhead emergency calls. Nutrition and Food Services (NFS) is excited to announce that we will be offering a new and improved patient menu starting on March 3. NFS will be distributing copies of the new menu to all units starting March 2 after 5 p.m., while also collecting all copies of the old menu. The new menus are a lighter shade of blue to to help you identify between the two different menus.

JCAHO Preparedness Survey Continues
As part of our Joint Commission preparedness effort Plant Engineering has a contractor moving through the hospitals and reviewing above ceiling and below ceiling conditions to make sure we meet Joint Commission requirements. The contractors began their work in the Neurosciences Hospital starting Feb. 26 and plan to complete that hospital by March 14.

​In support of the Surgical Tower project, it is necessary to perform a normal power outage that effects all 12 floors of Memorial Hospital on Feb. 26 and March 4. These power outages will begin at 10 p.m., and will be complete at 6 a.m. the following morning. This outage will be on the normal side, so power will be available from the generators. All necessary equipment should be plugged into the emergency outlets (red outlets).

Applications are now being accepted through March 27 for the UNC Volunteer Association Employee Family Scholarship. Children of full-time UNC Hospitals or Hillsborough Hospital employees who plan to pursue a health profession, and are enrolled in or plan to attend a two or four-year college or technical school in the 2020-2021 academic year are encouraged to apply. The Women's Health Education Center invites you to enjoy our art exhibit. This month features the artwork of Nicole Rabon titled the "Reflections of Eno River." The Women's Health Education Center is located on the ground floor of the N.C. Women's Hospital, in the lobby area, and is open from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Reopening of the Ground Floor Neurosciences West Corridor Delayed until March 18
The Ground Floor Neurosciences west corridor, which is currently closed as part of the EDTU project, was scheduled to reopen on Tuesday, Feb. 18, but has been delayed due to unforeseen existing conditions that need to be addressed during the corridor closure. The corridor is now scheduled to reopen on Monday, March 18.
