Reminder: Safe Patient Handling Initiative

The Safe Patient Handling Initiative has been in effect for several years and has tremendously decreased UNC Hospitals' Worker Compensation claims. Unfortunately, there are still issues with slides and slings being placed in the incorrect laundry hamper. Cases of the flu continue to increase, with more than 12% of ED visitors exhibiting flu-like symptoms last week. Be prepared! Exactly 4,900 employees received a flu vaccine as of Jan. 31, which puts us at a 65 percent compliance rate. Our goal is 80 percent.
