National Nutrition Month Week Two: Re-think your drink

Did you know North Carolina has the 10th highest adult obesity rate in the nation? Two-thirds of adults in N.C. are overweight or obese. Many people focus on food or physical activity for weight loss or weight management. However, sugary drinks can contribute many more calories to your day than you think.

56 percent of N.C. adults drink one or more sugar-sweetened beverages on a typical day, which can add up to 500 additional calories.  So, next time you pick a beverage make sure you re-think your drink.

For additional information, please visit our National Nutrition Month table on Thursday, March 10 between noon and 2 p.m. in the Children’s Lobby near the Terrace Café steps. We will have some of our Registered Dietitians from the Adult Inpatient Services Clinical Dietitian team manning the table demonstrating the above concept and available for questions.

For those that are unable to visit the table, you can also access related material from Eat Smart Move More NC here and from the CDC here.
