The Tobacco-Free Tar Heels program encourages all UNC Health Care employees to be tobacco-free on Nov. 17 in honor of the American Cancer Society’s 36th annual Great American Smokeout. One day without smoking is no longer a challenge for Stacy Weaver, a medical support assistant in Surgical Services.

A message from Carol Straight, President, Chatham Hospital
As many of you are aware, I will retire as Chatham Hospital President on Dec. 9 and Bob Blackwell will retire from his Chief Financial Officer position at Chatham Hospital Dec. 23. Becky Quate has agreed to serve as Interim President of Chatham Hospital in addition to her role as Chief Nursing Officer. Brock Simonds will serve as Interim Chief Financial Officer.

UNC School of Medicine program provides thrombosis resource for healthcare professionals and patients
Beth Waldron has worked in the health policy arena for years. But her work became much more personal when she was diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism in 2003. “That experience sparked me to both volunteer and work in areas related to thrombosis advocacy,” said Waldron, who serves as the program director of UNC’s unique Clot Connect initiative.
Women’s Hospital receives 5 Stars - N.C. Maternity Center Breastfeeding-Friendly Designation
The N.C. Women’s Hospital has been awarded five stars from the N.C. Maternity Center Breastfeeding-Friendly Designation Review Committee of the N.C. Division of Public Health. Our maternity center received credit for completing all of the "10 Steps to Successful Breastfeeding." Mission Hospital in Asheville is the only other five-star Breastfeeding-Friendly hospital in North Carolina.
