Did You Know? - The CISM Team

Did you know that UNC Health Care has a Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) team? Read more for a brief description of the services provided by the CISM team and a history of the team.

UNC Health Care System's Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) team
The CISM team has assisted employees in need since 1998. The team was established to provide a communication and educational network for critical events, which involve acute psychological stress that can affect patient care and job performance.

The team provides an opportunity for health care workers to discuss the stress of traumatic incidents that may include a declared disaster, an unusual influx of trauma patients (less than disaster level), or an unusually traumatic event, in a confidential and supportive setting.

The team is made up of trained volunteer employees from many different departments throughout the Health Care System. There is a Coordinator on call 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, for 52 weeks per year to answer your questions or to arrange for interventions.

The On-Call Coordinator can be reached at pager number 919-216-3636 or you can access information via the CISM Team website on the Intranet at:
http://intranet.unchealthcare.org/hospitaldepartments/cism.

If you are interested in obtaining more information or educational materials for yourself or your department or would like to talk with someone about becoming a member of the team, please send an e-mail to cism@unch.unc.edu or call Employee Relations at 919-966-2262.
