New Imaging Portables

The Imaging Department purchased 5 new portable X-ray units- painted in custom colors.

Not many pieces of equipment in the Hospital setting last for 21 years. Actually there are very few people who last 21 years in the Hospital environment! The stress of daily use and abuse is normally enough to send anything (or anyone for that matter) to an early retirement.

Enter our fleet of Portable X-ray Machines. The true workhorses of our Department, these machines have been everywhere and seen it all. After 21 years and 1200 - 1500 portable exams a month, it’s time for a changing of the guard.

Built on the same platform that has served us so well for so many years, these new-to-us units are more than just a pretty face. But we are UNC; why rebuilt, used machines? Is the economy that bad? The AMX-4 line has been the industry standard for more years than most of us have been in the profession. However, with the advent of portable digital radiography, most companies have phased out old lines and introduced new ones. Unfortunately, such is the fate of the AMX-4+. By purchasing this fleet of 10, rebuilt and custom painted AMX-4+ machines, we can allow the world of portable digital radiography time to mature and raise itself to our high standards.

If you see these units roaming the halls, don’t be afraid to stop and take a look. The level of detail is really something. Our next 5 are scheduled to arrive sometime in the next few months, stay tuned for news of their arrival.
