UNC Hospitals operates at (or above) capacity almost every weekday despite having almost 2 million square feet of space on our Chapel Hill campus. With the recent purchase of 47 acres of land on Hwy. 15-501 near the I-40 intersection (exit 270), we have an opportunity to determine how to best use our available space at UNC Hospitals and our off-site locations.

Alert Carolina Siren Test Feb. 28

The University will conduct a TEST of its emergency sirens and text messages on Tuesday, Feb. 28, between noon - 1 p.m. Our colleagues at Meadowmont and Hedrick should be aware that this will be the first test of a new siren at the Friday Center. No action is needed during the test.

Ash Wednesday Service

The service will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 2:30 p.m. in the John M. Reeves All Faiths Chapel. Ash Wednesday begins the Christian church season of Lent. The Lenten season is a preparation for the celebration of Easter. The use of ashes as a sign of mortality and repentance has a long history in the Jewish and Christian traditions.

Controlled Substance Identification Requirements

On March 1, a new law (NC S.L. 2011-349) passed by the North Carolina General Assembly will go into effect. The new law requires the presentation of a valid photo ID prior to dispensing of any new and refill Schedule II or certain Schedule III prescriptions.
