NCFlex Flexible Spending Accounts
The Health Care FSA (HCFSA) and Dependent Day Care FSA (DDCFSA) provide you a great way to pay for eligible out of pocket medical expenses with tax-free money. Here are the top four things you need to know about enrolling for the FSA in 2013:

  1. Contribution Limit: The new maximum contribution amount to the HCFSA is $2,500 starting plan year 2013.
  2. Using the NC Flex Convenience Card: When you enroll in the HCFSA you will automatically receive the NC Flex Convenience Card at no cost to you.  If you are currently enrolled in the 2012 HCFSA and re-enroll for 2013, your current NC Flex Card will automatically be re-loaded with the amount you elect for the 2013 plan year.

The card can be used for eligible out of pocket health care expenses instead of paying out of pocket. The card is no longer available for Dependent Daycare expenses.

  1. Extension to Incur Expenses: For plan year 2013, you can incur eligible expenses from your effective date until March 15, 2014, provided you remain active in the plan through December 31, 2013.
  2. Re-enrollment: Is required every year for the HCFSA and DDCFSA.

VALIC Sessions (to discuss your ORP option)
VALIC representative Harris Ogburn will be available on-site Tuesday, Oct. 23 from 8 a.m. to noon in the Medical School Wing C (old motel) Room 102 for one-on-one appointments and education sessions.  Please call 919-943-0165 or email to setup your session.

UNUM On-Site
UNUM will be on-site to answer questions and help enroll on the following:

  • Thursday, Oct. 18 from 8 to 10 a.m. at the Shared Services Building Lobby
  • Monday, Oct. 22 from 1 to 6 p.m. at the Cancer Hospital Hallway (near Starbucks)
  • Tuesday, Oct. 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the ACC Building 2nd Floor Lobby

Fidelity Representative Session (to discuss your ORP option)
Fidelity 403b representative Katie Maxwell will be available on-site Thursday, Oct. 25 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Medical School Wing C (old motel) Room 102 for one-on-one appointments and education sessions.  Please register at or by calling 1-800-642-7131, prompt 1.

Employee Benefits at Hospital
The Employee Benefits office will have a representative at the hospital Wednesday, Oct. 24 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Medical School Wing C (old Motel) Room 102 to help you with benefits related questions and forms.

Maternity Workshop
The Maternity Workshop is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 2 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. in the Women’s Conference Room 4  and goes over information such as: Family Medical Leave Act, Shared Leave Policy for Maternity Leave, Benefits Insurance Changes/Options, and Child Care Resources.

Benefits and Life Planning Workshop
Is retirement looming in your near future?  This workshop is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 9 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Hedrick Classroom #2 and will discuss the Teachers’ and State Employees’ Retirement System benefits and Social Security.   Eligible participants should meet the following criteria:

  • age 60 with at least 5 years of service
  • age 50 with at least 20 years of service
  • any age with at least 30 years of service
