Chapel Hill Transit and Triangle Transit alerts

Please read for updates from Chapel Hill Transit (CHT) and Triangle Transit Authority (TTA).

From Chapel Hill Transit

  • Both lanes of N.C. 86/South Columbia street now open in Chapel Hill. Traffic between Purefoy Road and Mason Farm Road has returned to normal activity, three days ahead of schedule. CHT routes, however, will remain on detour until Aug. 19. Due to the amount of construction activity that will take place in this area over the next week and the likelihood of delays, CHT routes operating on South Columbia (CCX, CPX, J, JFX, NS, PX, RU, V and Saturday JN) will remain on posted detours until Monday, August 19, 2013.
  • Chapel Hill Transit (CHT) services will not operate on Monday, Sept. 2, 2013, in observance of the Labor Day holiday.  CHT services will resume on Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013.  For more information, contact a customer service representative at 919-969-4900 (press 1) or email chtransit@townofchapelhill.org.

From Triangle Transit

August Service Changes effective Monday, Aug. 19

  • Route 201: This route will no longer serve Sandy Forks Rd and Shanda Dr.
  • Route 700: We will eliminate service to Davis Dr and Cornwallis Rd in the northbound direction during the morning peak period (Monday-Friday, 7:00-9:30am) and southbound direction in the afternoon peak period (Monday-Friday, 4:00-6:30pm). NOTE: The original proposal eliminated service from Davis Dr and Cornwallis Rd at all time periods.
  • Route 800: Eastbound trips departing Manning Dr at UNC Hospitals between 4:30pm and 5:30pm will use new routing to avoid traffic on NC-54. Minor schedule adjustments for bus stops near UNC to depart several minutes earlier. There will be additional trips during morning (6:43am-10am) and afternoon peak periods (3pm-5:51pm) so that bus service is provided every 15 minutes between the Southpoint Mall Park-and-Ride and UNC.
  • Shuttle 49: There will be new routing on the Triangle Expressway and NC-54 to return to the Regional Transit Center and minor schedule adjustments at Louis Stephens at Cisco.
