Karen’s career at UNC Health Care spans more than 25 years, most recently as Vice President for Public Affairs and Marketing, a position she has held for 12 years. Her experience in strategic communication and marketing, as well as improving the patient experience, makes her well-suited for the position.
As CCMO, Karen will lead a strategic, dynamic communications and marketing organization that includes UNC Hospitals, UNC Faculty Physicians, Rex Healthcare, UNC Physicians Network, High Point Regional, Chatham Hospital, Caldwell Memorial and Pardee Hospital. The CCMO reports directly to Dr. Roper and serves as a key advisor in communications, management and strategy.
Margaret Dardess will step down as CCMO for UNC Health Care and assume new responsibilities as Senior Advisor to Dr. Roper. She will advise and counsel the UNC Health Care leadership team and assist in the design and implementation of new and existing projects and relationships in the School of Medicine and UNC Health Care. She also will coach and mentor executives, faculty and staff.
Additionally, Lisa Schiller of Rex Healthcare was named system Vice President for Communications and Marketing for UNC Health Care. In her new role, Lisa will oversee communication and marketing efforts for all community hospitals and regional care sites. She also will continue in her role as Vice President for Communication and Marketing at Rex Healthcare, overseeing marketing, public relations, and community and government relations.
Congratulations to both Karen and Lisa on their new responsibilities.
