Dec. 15 Mandatory Influenza Vaccination Reminder

As of Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 10, more than 12,000 colleagues have become flu vaccine compliant this year. UNC Hospitals and UNC Faculty Physicians co-workers, medical staff, students, volunteers, vendors who are contractually required to comply with our policies, and UNC School of Medicine colleagues identified as providing service in one of our facilities, are reminded of the approaching Dec. 15 deadline to receive a flu vaccine.

Occupational Health Services (OHS) staff members continue to administer flu vaccines daily from 7:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. through Friday, Dec. 13. No appointments are necessary.

The Influenza Immunization of Healthcare Personnel Policy (IC0062) requires vaccination or evidence of vaccination by December 15th.  Exemptions may be granted only for medical contraindications or religious beliefs.  Compliance is a condition of employment for UNC HCS employees.  Employees who are non-compliant as of December 15, 2013, will be given notice of intent to proceed with termination, effective that date, and will not be permitted to work thereafter.

Please be aware of the following:

  • December 15, 2013, up to midnight, is the last day you may demonstrate compliance with the Influenza policy.   Non-compliant employees who are permanent, regular employees will receive notice of a pre-disciplinary conference proposing their dismissal.
  • December 16, 2013 OHS staff members are available during business hours from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. to receive employees' documentation demonstrating proof of compliance by the December 15, 2013 deadline.
  • December 17, 2013 Non-compliant "at-will" probationary, temporary, per diem and contract employees will receive notice of dismissal if they have not demonstrated compliance by midnight December 15, 2013.
  • December 17, 2013 - Non-compliant employees who are permanent, regular employees will not be allowed to work.
  • December 17-18 or as soon as possible but preferably no later than December 20, 2013 - Pre-disciplinary conferences will be held proposing dismissal of non-compliant employees.

You are fully expected to comply with the conditions of the Influenza policy in order to retain your employment.  Your supervisors and managers are responsible for the proper administration of the Influenza policy and the Corrective Action policy and are accountable for doing so as well.
