This change is effective immediately and will apply to all users at UNC Hospitals, UNC Faculty Physicians, Chatham Hospital, Rex Healthcare, UNC Physicians Network, and High Point Regional.
The two main factors that led UNC Health Care to select Dell were cost and functionality.
Using Dell’s products across UNC Health Care will provide significant cost savings. Previously, each UNC Health Care entity purchased or leased PCs, laptops, tablets, and monitors independently. This new contract will allow ISD to standardize hardware across UNC Health Care while also leveraging our buying power to achieve significant savings.
From a functionality standpoint, this new contract also allows ISD to begin deploying Dell’s industry-leading “thin client” and “zero client” systems across UNC Health Care facilities in addition to PCs, tablets, monitors, and laptops. Standardizing our equipment also helps prepare each entity for the implementation of our Epic@UNC system.
The current PCs, laptops, tablets, and monitors will remain in use until warranties expire and hardware is replaced. New Dell products will begin to replace the current inventory in use through attrition and approved new requests.
