2014 Annual Enrollment open through Oct. 31

Annual Enrollment is under way through Oct. 31 for all voluntary benefits. There are significant changes to the 2014 benefits which will REQUIRE your attention before Annual Enrollment ends on Oct. 31.

State Health Plan details

  • All covered employees will be defaulted to the Traditional 70/30 plan for 2014.  Employees that wish to select a plan other than the 70/30 plan MUST complete their election online before enrollment closes on Oct. 31. NO EXCEPTIONS!
  • The Consumer Directed Health Plan (CDHP) is a new plan option being offered along with the Traditional 70/30 and Enhanced 80/20 Plans
  • New Wellness Activities have a DIRECT IMPACT on the premiums employee’s pay for the Enhanced 80/20 or Consumer Directed Health Plan
  • Health Insurance Special Pay (HISP) has been revised for 2014
  • Employee Benefits will be at UNC Hospitals on the following dates/times to help you determine which benefits to choose for 2014:
    • Oct. 9 from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. in room 102 in Wing C
    • Oct. 10 from 8 a.m. - noon in room 102 in Wing C
    • Oct. 16 from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. in room 102 in Wing C
    • Oct. 17 from 8 a.m. - noon in room 102 in Wing C
    • Oct. 23 from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. in room 102 in Wing C
    • Oct. 24 from 8 a.m. - noon in room 102 in Wing C
    • Oct. 25 from noon - 4 p.m. in room 102 in Wing C
    • Oct. 30 from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. in room 102 in Wing C
    • Oct. 31 from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. in room 102 in Wing C

NC Flex Benefits details

  • Vision Plan 2 Discontinued
  • New  FREE vision plan being offered – Employee Only coverage
  • New Life Insurance available for spouse and dependent children
  • MUST re-enroll in Flexible Spending Accounts every year

NCFlex Vision

The Vision plan is an excellent way to cover expenses for eye exams, glasses and / or contact lenses.  Refractive Surgery (RK, PRK and Lasik) is covered at a discount and the plan coordinates out of pocket expenses with the Flexible Spending account. 

The changes to the plan are as follows:

Core Wellness Exam (New)

Available to employees at no cost:  An annual comprehensive eye exam for a $20 copay with discounts on vision materials if needed. 

Basic Plan (Formerly plan one) Exam and Materials:
New for 2014: Reduced premiums and a $20 co-pay for contact lens exam.  Increased frame allowance to $125 retail and new calendar year frequency plus discounts

Enhanced Plan (Formerly Plan Three) Enhanced Exam and Materials:
New for 2014: Reduced Premiums and a $20 co-pay for contact lens exam.  Increased frame allowance to $175 retail plus discounts.  All benefits offered on calendar year basis.

Plan 2 (Materials only) is no longer available.  If you have been participating in plan 2, you will need to elect either the Core, Basic or Enhanced Plan.

The NCFlex annual enrollment is October 1-31. You have until midnight (ET) October 31st to enroll or make changes. State Health Plan – For Spanish Speaking Members

UNC Health Care Employee Benefits has extended their hours at the Hospital to assist employees with benefit related questions and enrollment.  Spanish Interpreter Assistance will be available in Medical School Wing C Room 102 (Old Motel Unit) on the following days.

  • Thursday, Oct. 10 from 8 a.m. – noon
  • Thursday, Oct. 24 from 8 a.m. – noon
  • Friday, Oct. 25 from noon - 4 p.m.
