Epic@UNC - A Brief Message from Dr. Roper

Read this message about Epic@UNC Go-Live #1 from Dr. Roper.

Dear Colleagues,

With Epic@UNC Go-Live #1 this week, we move closer to our goal of “One patient ID, one problem list, one medication list, and one bill,” for each patient.

We started this journey 14 months ago, and in February 2013 produced the video at right for Epic to share at its monthly staff meeting in Wisconsin as an introduction to UNC Health Care.

In the year since, our 200 Core Team members went to Wisconsin for training, built Epic@UNC using the input and feedback of our co-workers, completely tested it, and more than 11,000 of us have trained to use it.

As with any new system, there will be issues and challenges at Go-Live. But we are trained and have support and resources available when needed. We will make a few mistakes, learn lessons, and then meet the challenges before us. While there will be tremendous activity during our Go-Live, remember what is most important – our commitment to our patients and the people of North Carolina.

Thanks again to our Core Team and to everyone who is working incredibly hard – and will work incredibly hard during Go-Live – to make Epic@UNC a success.

Sincerely,

William L. Roper, MD, MPH
Dean, UNC School of Medicine
CEO, UNC Health Care
