Join the UNC Department of Psychiatry nursing staff to celebrate World Mental Health Day on Friday, Oct. 10, by spreading awareness of psychiatric illnesses in adults and children. Nearly 1 in 4 adults—approximately 61.5 million Americans—experience mental illness in a given year. Visit the tables set up in the Cancer - Neurosciences Hallway to learn about the illnesses we treat in our inpatient units (Psychotic Disorders, Geriatric Psych, Crisis, Eating Disorders, Peri-Partum, and Child/Adolescent Psych), as well as resources available at UNC and in the community.

Create "sensory squares" like the ones used by children with autism, simulate the daily struggle those living with schizophrenia feel at completing tasks, and show your support by purchasing raffle tickets for the Walk for Hope. Mental illness affects our friends, neighbors, veterans, and even our own family members. It’s time to stop hiding, and talk about it.
