As part of the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit renovation, the low pressure steam system will be down in the Neurosciences Hospital from 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 22, until 1 a.m. Thursday, July 23. During this shutdown, there will be no domestic hot water available to staff or patients. Domestic cold water will be available during this time. There will be limited heating from the HVAC systems as well.
On Aug. 2, 2015, UNC Health Care will Go-Live with the first upgrade of our Plans of Care and Patient Education from our 3rd party vendor, CPM. We will be using the Fall 2014 updated plans of care.
From Friday evening, July 17, through Sunday evening, July 19, the bank of four visitor elevators in the Neurosciences Hospital will skip by the first floor to allow for overhead renovation work to proceed in conjunction with the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit Renovation.
Effective July 14: Code Sepsis live in Emergency Department; Best Practice Advisory (BPA) alerts in Epic@UNC
As of June 2, Code Sepsis launched in the Children’s Hospital. It expanded to the Pediatric and Adult Emergency Departments (ED) at UNC Hospitals on Tuesday, July 14. Only ED patients will be affected, and training has been provided to ED staff. However, providers outside the ED may receive a sepsis Best Practice Advisory (BPA) alert in Epic@UNC while accessing patient charts while that patient is located in the ED.

Howard Sutton, clinical support technician in the Department of Anesthesia, enrolled in the Tobacco Free Tar Heels program three years ago. Today he is tobacco free.
Pediatric TPN orders to be administered via a peripheral line must have an osmolarity value below 1010 mOsm/L to avoid damaging the peripheral vasculature. If a peripherally-administered TPN order exceeds this osmolarity, prescribers will get a hard-stop warning in Epic@UNC beginning July 20, 2015, to prevent the order from being signed.
