Effective July 29: Dose Standardization in Epic@UNC for Unasyn and Zosyn administered to pediatric patients
To decrease the potential for medication errors and also increase efficiency in the Pharmacy, on Wednesday, July 29, the Epic@UNC team implemented dose ranges and standardized doses for Unasyn (Ampicillin/Sulbactam) and Zosyn (Piperacillin/Tazobactam) administered to pediatric patients.

The ICD-10 Oct. 1 "go live" is less than 63 days away for our country’s health care systems. If you still haven’t completed the training, we encourage you to log in and complete it as soon as possible. For UNC/Rex users log into LMS and review your ICD-10 to-do list. All others please log into the applicable training system at your site.

UNC Medical Center offers Paid Time Off (PTO) sell-back election periods quarterly to employees. To be eligible for the sell-back options, employees must have at least 148 hours of PTO available.

Non-violent restraint duration defaulted to two days
Beginning Tuesday, Aug. 4, the duration of Non-Violent restraints on any inpatient at Chatham, Rex, or UNC Hospitals will default to two calendar days in Epic@UNC.

ICD-10 Roadshow Coming to UNC!
The roadshow on Friday, July 31, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Children's Hospital lobby, will help you understand and prepare for the upcoming ICD-10 implementation. In preparation for the Aug. 2 Epic@UNC update, you will not be able to create/edit any personalization components of Epic@UNC (SmartPhrases, InBasket Quick Actions, NoteWriter Macros, etc.) from 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, until 4:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 2 (when the Epic@UNC update is complete).

Effective Aug. 1: New and Revised General Consents, Privacy Practices and Acknowledgement, and Other Registration Forms
Beginning Aug. 1, 2015, new versions of the general consent, psychiatric general consent, notice of privacy practices, and patient rights will replace previous versions. The new versions should be implemented across the health care system, regardless of the use of Epic@UNC or not.
Effective Aug. 5: Primary Insurance Coverage displayed in Inpatient, ED Patient Headers (Intranet)
Effective Aug. 5, 2015, the majority of the Inpatient and ED patient headers will include a new item that displays the name of the primary insurance coverage. To save space, the label appears as “INS” in the header.
'Values and Beliefs' section of RN Admission Navigator required beginning Aug. 5
Effective Aug. 5, 2015, the "Values and Beliefs" section of the RN Admission Navigator will become required documentation for admission. Documentation of the Cultural Requests and Spiritual Requests questions within this section must be completed within 24 hours of admission.

The Special Coagulation Laboratory announces the introduction of in-house testing for Beta-2 Glycoprotein 1 IgG and IgM Antibodies using an enzyme linked immunoassay. Samples for this testing have been previously sent to Mayo Medical Laboratories.
