Spong accepts position at Orlando Health; Hawkins new CFO for Rex Healthcare

Bernadette Spong has accepted the CFO position at Orlando Health, where she’ll join David Strong’s executive team. Bernadette had recently started a new role at UNC Health Care as Senior Vice President, Financial Shared Services and CFO, Network Hospitals, following a ten-year tenure as CFO at Rex Healthcare. Please join us in thanking Bernadette for her years of service at UNC Health Care.

Steve Burriss, Rex Healthcare President, shared the message below with all Rex employees on June 1:

I have mixed emotions in announcing two executive office changes. First, Bernadette Spong has resigned to accept the position of Chief Financial Officer of Orlando Health, where she’ll join David Strong.

Second, I am very pleased to announce that effective immediately Erick Hawkins will assume the role of Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for Rex Healthcare. As CFO, Erick will chart Rex’s financial vision and direction that supports Rex’s strategy and ensures financial stability and growth. The CFO position is a critical member of the Rex executive team, and we are pleased to have Erick, who has been with Rex for 12 years, in this important role. In addition to his CFO duties, Erick will remain engaged with Rex’s Heart and Vascular service line as Vice President, Heart and Vascular Services at Rex.

I’d like to thank Bernadette for her service as Rex’s CFO for 10 years. Rex’s financial strength and stability is in no small part due to Bernadette’s fiscal stewardship and dedication. She will remain at Rex through July. Please also join me in congratulating Erick in his new role as CFO for Rex Healthcare.
