Centralized Approach to Hospital Throughput

In our continued effort to meet the goals of UNC Medical Center and to increase effective capacity and improved resource utilization for patients, the House Supervisors in Nursing have reorganized to create a centralized approach to the hospital throughput process.

Beginning April 11, 2016, one Nursing Supervisor will be stationed in proximity to Bed Placement 24/7 to partner with and provide clinical support for patient placement decisions. At that time we will transition from our traditional service line House Supervisor model to one based on location.

As of Monday, April 11, at 7 a.m., please direct all calls for patient placement to the Bed Placement team. Bed Placement will assist with requests and escalate areas of concern as needed to the Nursing Supervisor assigned to Bed Placement each shift. From any internal phone you can dial *BED (*233) then option #3 to reach Bed Placement. If you are outside of the hospital please call 984-974-2041 option #3.

House Supervisors will continue to round on the inpatient units, partnering with charge RNs, physicians, managers, and families to ensure we are providing exceptional care to all patients. To reach the House Supervisors covering Memorial/Anderson Pavilion/Patient Support Tower please call 4-5458. To reach the House Supervisor covering Women’s & Children’s/Neuroscience/Oncology, call 4-5402.

Thank you for your partnership,

Mary Lynn Billet – Patient Flow Coordinator
Angela Ford – Manager of Bed Placement
Anne Spain – Nurse Manager of House Supervisors
