A Message from UNC Movember Headquarters

For the last four years, students, faculty and staff at UNC and UNC Health Care Network have participated in Movember -- a global fundraising campaign committed to changing the face of men’s health. The Movember Foundation challenges men to grow moustaches during Movember (formerly known as November) to spark conversation and raise vital funds for men’s health programs that focus on prostate cancer, testicular cancer, poor mental health and physical inactivity. Our 2016 UNC Network goal is to raise $50,000 -- we hope you'll consider donating, growing, or both!

Dear UNC Health Care colleagues,

In 2012, we branded our participation in this global campaign as UNC Movember. It all started with just a handful of UNC faculty and staff and we raised almost $3,000. In 2013, we became a band of 50 growers and we raised almost $12,000.

But in 2014, UNC Movember exploded. By engaging the entire UNC/UNC Health Care family, we became a statewide network of Mo-growers. We grew over 250 moustaches in classrooms, exam rooms, board rooms, operating rooms and dorm rooms. We grew moustaches on bikes, in ambulances, behind lecterns and even on patients’ faces. And by the end of the month, we raised $42,000! UNC is now a Mo-centric environment and we intend to keep on growing.

In 2015 we finished strong with nearly $30,000. Our 2016 Network goal is set at $50,000. We hope that you'll consider donating, or growing, or both!

The challenge is simple. Guys take action by signing up, shaving down their face on Movember 1, and growing a moustache for the month. They grow and groom their new Mo (slang for moustache), asking friends and family to donate to their efforts.

But Movember’s not just for men. Women who support men’s health, known as Mo Sistas, are an important part of Movember’s success. Mo Sistas register, start a team and fundraise – they do everything Mo Bros do, they just don’t grow a Mo. Mo Sistas are champions of Movember, rallying the men in their lives to join the movement, grow moustaches and have important conversations about men’s health.

In 2014, our friends at Johnston, Caldwell, Chatham and High Point joined the cause; but this year, we are hoping for 100% participation from all hospitals across UNC Health Care. For more information or to join the MO-vement, visit www.UNCMOVEMBER.com.

Please Sign up and take the challenge!

I hope that you'll consider starting a team of growers, or donating to a team of growers, or both! Movember is a fun and worthwhile campaign that I truly believe is helping to change the face of men’s health.

United We Mo!
