    State Health Plan Open Enrollment

    Key Changes/Reminders for 2017

    • All employees will automatically be moved to the 70/30 plan, regardless of what level of coverage employees had the previous year. Employees MUST login or call the enrollment center to opt out if they want another level of coverage (80/20 or CDHP), and everyone who opts for another level of coverage must complete wellness activities for the lowest premium.
    • Employees who remain in the 70/30 plan will have a wellness activity to complete for the first time! 70/30 enrollees must complete the tobacco attestation during the month of October to ensure the lowest premium.
    • There are some changes in benefits for 70/30 & 80/20 participants (no changes for the CDHP):
      • The 70/30 plan will have a slightly higher deductible, co-insurance maximum, and co-pays. This plan will also contain important prescription changes. More detailed information can be found here.
      • The 80/20 plan will have a higher deductible and out-of-pocket maximum, and some lower co-pays for 2017. More detailed information can be found here.
      • For employees on the 80/20 Plan or Consumer-Directed Health Plan (CDHP) who wish to maintain or lower premiums, you must complete the following activities:
        • A health assessment
        • Tobacco attestation
        • Designate a primary care provider
    • All premiums are increasing by about 3%. The increases will be seen starting in the December payroll.
    • Review your dependents to make sure everyone on your insurance has the correct SSN listed. Those missing SSNs or with incorrect SSNs will be deleted from coverage after open enrollment. Any addition of dependents during open enrollment requires you to submit verification of relationship. Acceptable documents can be uploaded to the enrollment site. A list of materials can be found here.
    • New hires must reattest to being tobacco-free during Open Enrollment even though they might have just enrolled.
    • Which Plan is for me? New Health Benefit Estimator tool online
      • If you plug in your estimated health expenses in the new online tool it will advice you which plan will be your better selection. Access the tool here.

Complete your Health Assessment now for chance at prizes
As in previous years, to ensure the lowest cost, employees on the Enhanced 80/20 Plan or Consumer-Directed Health Plan (CDHP) 85/15 Plan must complete the following three activities:
      • A health assessment
      • Tobacco attestation
      • Designate a primary care provider

Individuals on these plans may complete their Health Assessments now at the State Health Plan website. This year, members who complete their Health Assessments online by Oct. 15, 2016, will have a chance to win a great prize! The prizes are:

    • $250 Amazon gift cards – six weekly drawings starting in September
    • Apple Watch grand prize – one grand prize, one lucky winner!

Once you complete your Health Assessment online, you are automatically entered into the drawings. The earlier you complete your Health Assessment, the more chances you have to win. View full details at the State Health Plan website.

NC Flex and Other Benefits Offered

For 2017, there is a new dental vendor available to employees -- moving from United Concordia to MetLife. All employees may sign up with no waiting periods for any services, and the annual max benefit for the high option is increasing to $5,000 (twice the previous option of $2,500). MetLife has a network of providers -- look for yours, enter your zip code, and select the PDP Plus Network to find a list of participating in-network dentists near you by visiting https://www.metlife.com/dental. Employees covering children should pay particular attention to their rate changes, which are more significant.

    Other benefits offered include:

    • Voluntary AD&D – Lower rates this year!
    • Cancer – No EOI (evidence of insurability) required for 2017
    • Critical Illness – New $25K coverage level offered
    • Don’t forget the flexible spending accounts require annual re-enrollment! Choose your annual election, not your pay period amount.
    • Voya Life Insurance – Lower rates and no EOI on employees up to $200K now (increase coverage by $10K or $20K at annual enrollment)

As you make you your decisions about the State Health Plan and NC Flex, you may also want to consider other benefits you have available to you, including MetPay for Auto/Home, MetLaw for Legal, and MetLife for Life Insurance and/or Transamerica Whole Life Insurance. Stay tuned for more information from UNC Medical Center's Employee Benefits.

    MetLaw Enrollment

Do you Know the Facts about the Importance of a Will?

    • FACT: If you do not have a Will, the laws of your state will direct how your property will be divided and a court will decide who will become the guardian of your children.
    • FACT: If you already have a Will, but over the years your income has changed, you’ve purchased or sold a home, or you’ve had children, then you need to update your will.
    • IT’S A FACT: If you only use MetLaw® to have your Will prepared or updated this plan year, this benefit will be of significant savings and value to you and your family. Average cost of a Will Preparation package for you and your spouse = $1,000.00. Annual cost of MetLaw is $188.88, or just $15.74 per month through payroll deductions.

You can enroll in MetLaw during the open enrollment period in October to use this service in 2017 to take care of all your Will needs.

Are you concerned about identity theft and how to protect yourself? Have you been putting off writing a will for one excuse after another? Next month, you will have the opportunity to enroll in METLAW, a legal services benefit offered by Hyatt Legal Plans, a MetLife company, and be able to access legal services for these and other issues.

For a low bi-weekly deduction of $7.87, the plan covers representation for many personal legal services for you and your eligible dependents (eligible dependents are your spouse/domestic partners, and unmarried dependent children). You may receive office consultations and/or telephone advice for virtually any personal legal matter. This gives you the opportunity to discuss with an attorney legal issues that are not specifically excluded matters, even if the matter is not fully covered. You can enroll in MetLaw during the open enrollment period in October to use this service in 2017.
