For four years in a row, UNC Hospitals received Equality Leader status from the Healthcare Equality Index (HEI). The Human Rights Campaign Foundation developed the HEI to address “the need for equitable, knowledgeable, sensitive and welcoming healthcare, free from discrimination based on LGBT status.” The Foundation is charged with promoting equitable and inclusive care for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender patients and their families. Equality Leader recognition indicates that UNC Hospitals is committed to protecting its LGBT patients and employees from discrimination. The HEI survey gives health care facilities the resources they need to provide LGBT patient-centered care and recognizes those who explicitly commit to LGBT equity and inclusion.

The National LGBT Health Education Center has partnered with the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation to offer on-demand webinars as ongoing training for the HRC Foundation’s Healthcare Equality Index. “Introduction to your LGBT Patients” is one of those training sessions and will be presented in Cancer Hospital Conference Room 2 on Sept. 26. This training will count towards the ongoing LGBT education training requirement to receive the HEI leadership designation. It also supports UNC Health Care’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Registration is quick and easy! To register go to LMS and search for course code UNCHHRSLGBT. Select the 7:30 – 9 a.m. class on Sept. 26.
