Nursing Grand Rounds -- Stroke: Shaving Time, Saving Lives

This presentation will describe the novel strategies implemented by the UNC Stroke and Radiology teams designed to dramatically decrease the time from patient arrival to the start of endovascular therapy. "Stroke: Shaving Time, Saving Lives" will be presented by Chrissy Wells, Christa Williams, Nicole Burnett, Ann Waller, and Sharmila Soares.

There are over 50,000 strokes each year in the United States. Thirty-five percent of strokes are disabling and 25% cause death within the first year. Starting in 2017, The Joint Commission added "time to arterial (groin) puncture" for patients undergoing endovascular therapy for acute ischemic stroke as a reportable measure for Certified Comprehensive Stroke Centers.

Nursing Grand Rounds occur from 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. on the second Friday of each month (except for July, August, and December) in the 2nd floor OR Classroom.
