Health Maintenance updates coming Thursday, June 29

On Thursday, June 29, 2017 the Epic@UNC Healthy Planet (Population Health) team will release updates to Health Maintenance Plans, Topics, Modifiers and BPAs related to colon cancer screening.

New Health Maintenance (HM) Topics and Plans available for colon cancer screening:

  • Sigmoidoscopy – a patient can be assigned to Sigmoidoscopy every 5 years by adding the HM modifier ‘Sigmoidoscopy every 5 years’.
  • FIT-DNA Stool test – a patient can be assigned to FIT-DNA Stool test every 3 years by adding the HM modifier ‘FIT-DNA Stool Test every 3 years’. Note that UNC labs do not process FIT-DNA Stool Tests so this is not an orderable test in Epic@UNC. Results from FIT-DNA Stool Tests can be documented using an HM order, see the FIT-DNA Stool Test Documentation tipsheet for further details.
  • Colonoscopy every 2 years – a new HM Plan is available for patients who need a colonoscopy every 2 years. Use the HM modifier ‘Colonoscopy every 2 years’ to activate this HM plan.
  • Colonoscopy start age 40 – for patients who need to start screening colonoscopies every 5 years beginning at age 40, a new HM topic and plan are available by using the modifier ‘colonoscopy start age 40 every 5 years’. This topic and plan applies to patients age 40-75.

The Best Practice Advisory (BPA) for Primary Care (Internal Medicine, Family Medicine & Geriatrics) that prompts for colon cancer screening has been updated to recognize these new HM Topics and Plans.

See the Colon Cancer Screening Due tipsheet for more details.
