Providers: Update on MIPS Participation Status Letters

Providers across UNC Health Care will shortly be receiving notifications from CMS regarding participation in the new (effective 1/1/17) Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS). No action is required of UNC Health Care-employed providers - Practice Quality & Innovation (PQI) will facilitate a smooth transition from the former individual Medicare regulatory payment programs into MIPS and coordinate the submission of MIPS data for applicable UNC Health Care entities and provider groups.

These individual provider letters will be sent to the service location address linked to the provider’s primary practice. The letter's introductory language will likely mirror the excerpt below:

“Thank you for your participation in Medicare and the services you provide to people with Medicare. You’re an integral part of the dedicated team of clinicians who serve more than 55 million people with Medicare. The clinician-patient relationship is central to our work at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and we continuously work to reduce the administrative burdens you may face when participating in Medicare programs.

During this first year of transition to the Quality Payment Program, we have put together several program options, so you can choose the pace that best meets your practice needs…”

Please note—as outlined in previous communications, Practice Quality & Innovation (PQI) PQI will facilitate a smooth transition from the former individual Medicare regulatory payment programs into MIPS, and will coordinate the submission of MIPS data for applicable UNC HCS entities and provider groups (see list below).

Executive and clinical leadership who have partnered with UNC Physicians’ PQI Quality Coaches and program managers for MU and PQRS performance metrics and updates should continue to rely on those contacts for MIPS monitoring.
