Fire Alarm System Testing at UNC Medical Center, beginning Sept. 4

Annual testing of the fire alarm initiation, notification and control devices will occur throughout the UNC Medical Center, from Sept. 4 until Dec. 21, 2018. Testing will begin in the Women’s and Children’s Hospitals and continue throughout UNC Medical Center.

Most testing will occur between the hours of 7:30 a.m. – 6 p.m., Monday - Friday, but limited testing will occur during the evenings and on weekends.

The fire alarm initiation (smoke detectors) and alarm notification devices (speakers and strobe lights) will be activated and inspectors will be present in each area during testing. The fire alarm tones and strobe lights will activate for approximately five to ten minutes in the test areas. The fire doors and other doors controlled by the fire alarm system will also be affected during some of the testing. Typically, three floors of the building under test will be affected during each test event. This will be done repetitively throughout the buildings, but every effort will be made to minimize disruptions.
