The 5th Annual Run for Resilience Ostomy 5k Run/Walk

The 5th Annual Run for Resilience Ostomy 5k run/walk will take place on Oct. 6, 2018 at 8:00am at Renaissance Village near Southpoint. This is a family friendly event with a kid’s run, face painting, balloon artist, DJ and silent auction. This race benefits the United Ostomy Association of America (UOAA), a 501 (3)(c) charity that supports, empowers and educates persons living with an ostomy.

This race was started by Lara Leininger, a wound, ostomy and continence nurse (WOCN) at UNC, and Angela Richardson, a WOCN at Duke, in 2014.  The race continues to grow each year with nine total locations this year:  NC, AL, OR, TN, ID, PA, NJ, MI, and AZ and a world wide virtual run.  Each year, Leininger hosts a UNC competition encouraging UNC Health Care participation:  the team with the most participation through registrations, donations and silent auction donated items will win the Toilet Trophy for the year (a bronzed toilet trophy with their name engraved on the side). This race is also unique in that we have a dedicated race category for Ostomates, persons living with an ostomy.  For more information regarding the race, go to
