McLendon Lab Memo - Temporary Send Out of All Plasma EBV Viral Load Testing at UNC McLendon Clinical Laboratories

Due to manufacturer discontinuation of reagents currently used for EBV viral load testing, the UNC McLendon Clinical Laboratories will be sending out all plasma EBV viral load testing to Mayo Medical Laboratories beginning July 3. Please see the full memo for details.

Scheduling/Referral Staff: Pop-up Tickler to Link Referrals to Appointments

Epic@UNC now generates a pop-up tickler to remind users to link a referral to an appointment. When scheduling an appointment a department with the same specialty as an existing referral, the scheduler will see the tickler reminder to link the appointment. This change was made to support clinics in ensuring that the referrals are converted properly as well as reduce the potential for duplicate referrals for our patients.

Starting July 10, a new Chart Advisory will fire to give users notification that the patient participates in Project Access. A Tip Sheet on how to use this advisory can be found HERE. This advisory is to help alert clinics when they are working with a Project Access Patient so they can follow any protocols they have put in place. ​The second phase of My UNC Chart get started is live July 12. Patients are now able to mark if their guarantor information needs to be updated, add new insurance coverage, sign the Notice of Privacy Practices and the General Consent for Treatment, and make payments for same day services provided in non-hospital based clinics.

On Demand Coverage Discovery Begins July 24

​Effective Tuesday, July 24, we will have the ability to use the Coverage Discovery tool through Experian on demand for self-pay patients. When checking in a self-pay patient, staff can now search for “Coverage Discovery” using the current add coverage workflow. This sends a real time eligibility check and if active coverage is found, it will return a response to add coverage to the patient’s registration. Any responses received that aren’t added to the patient’s registration will populate into the “Missing Reg Items” workqueue.
