Documentation of Patient Reported Blood Pressures Enhancement in Epic@UNC

On July 5, 2018 a new section will be added to the Vital Signs flowsheet in Epic@UNC to allow documentation of Patient Reported (Home) Blood Pressures. This section will also display blood pressures entered via My UNC Chart. All Patient Reported (Home) Blood Pressures should be recorded in this flowsheet section and not in the Vital Signs section of the Navigator. Providers: New General Medicine Teaching Service Open at Hillsborough Hospital

The Bondurant-Ehringhaus Service for Teaching (BEST) started accepting patients on Sunday, June 24 at UNC Hospitals Hillsborough Campus. This new adult, general medicine teaching service with a cardiopulmonary emphasis, led by the Department of Medicine Chief Residents, will enhance the ability of the Hillsborough hospital to accept a greater number of high-acuity admissions and transfers, especially from the UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill. Exceptional clinical educators from the Department of Medicine were selected to rotate as attendings on the BEST Team.

Registration/Scheduling Staff: New Features Coming Soon for Get Started with My UNC Chart

Get Started with My UNC Chart allows patients to get a head start on the check-in process by allowing them to update demographics, provide clinical information, and answer questionnaires. A second phase of Get Started will be available soon for patients with brand new functionalities. Although patients will be able to use these functions, it is still the responsibility of administrative staff to verify all information at check in.

New VIR Consult Service Model Begins July 2, 2018

Vascular Interventional Radiology will be moving to a full Consult Service model for inpatients at UNC Medical Center. Beginning Monday, July 2, 2018 Service Providers across the Medical Center will now place a consult order instead of entering a procedural order. VIR Consult Service will assess the patient, collaborate with the referring clinical team, and place the procedure order. Details here.

Coming in October: Arrival times on patient appointment reminders

Starting in mid-October, UNC Health Care will be replacing appointment times with arrival times on our text, phone call, and print reminders. This change will allow clinics to account for the processing or wayfinding time needed that can impact on start time of a patient’s appointment. The default for UNC Medical Center will be 30 minutes for clinics located at 101 Manning Drive and 15 minutes for clinics located at other locations.

Order sets have been updated and revised for Go-Live #7, which is coming Sept. 22 at Nash and Wayne. As a result, order set sections have been consolidated and updated to a UNC Health Care system-wide approach starting July 17. Therefore, you may lose your personalization in these consolidated sections. UPDATED: Legislative changes for state pension (TSERS) members

On June 25, 2018, Governor Roy Cooper vetoed House Bill 1055. This means payment options will not be eliminated and service purchases will not be restricted. It is unclear whether this bill will be revisited when the North Carolina General Assembly goes back into session in 2019.

Inpatient providers: Respond via InBasket, Haiku, or Canto for Critical Value Notifications for inpatient specimens

Starting Thursday, June 28, inpatient providers will be able to respond to lab result Critical Values (CVs) on inpatient specimens tested at UNC McLendon Labs, Carolina Point II labs, and the Chatham Park Medical Office building labs using InBasket, Haiku, or Canto.
