Scheduling, Registration staff: Updated Workflow for Collecting Patient Email Addresses

A new feature is now available in Epic@UNC when registering a patient or verifying demographics that allows a user to select a reason from a drop down-menu when an email address has not been provided.

Previously, placeholder email addresses (none@unch.edu or decline@unch.edu) were used as a visual cue that a patient either didn’t have an email address or didn’t wish to provide one. Effective immediately, these placeholder emails (or any variation of) should no longer be added to patient demographics and must be removed if one is currently listed.

While these placeholders had worked in the past, they are now generating technical issues with patient communication and some My UNC Chart functionality.
