On Oct. 2, UNC Health Care will be replacing appointment times with arrival times on our text, phone call, and print reminders. Please join one of our training sessions to understand the operational changes. This change will allow clinics to account for the processing or wayfinding time needed that can affect an on time start of a patient’s appointment.

Providers: New BPA when selecting Kwashiokor as a diagnosis

​Kwashiorkor is severe form of malnutrition that is most common in developing regions of the world and should rarely be used as a diagnosis/problem list. A new BPA was developed to warn providers to verify that they are selecting a diagnosis that is rarely seen in patients in the US and to consider another diagnosis that is more suited for the patients they are treating. New Document Outlines Best Practices for Obtaining Blood Cultures

Following best practices for ordering/collecting blood cultures helps us to select appropriate treatment for patients and avoid blood culture contamination. The housewide, multidisciplinary CLABSI Prevention Workgroup, in conjunction with representatives from departments across the hospital, recently created the Best Practices for Obtaining Blood Cultures (excluding neonates) to ensure all of us have access to information on evidence-based practice for ordering and collecting blood cultures.

Nutrition and Food Service Schedule for Friday, Sept 14

In preparation of the approaching weather, Nutrition and Food Services (NFS) wants to ensure they are able to support the patient meal program and provide sufficient retail services. To accomplish this, the Overlook Café and ACC Courtyard Café will be closed on Friday, Sept. 14.
