Providers who Prescribe Outpatient Controlled Substances: New Provision of STOP Act Requiring Controlled Substances to be E-Prescribed Takes Effect Jan. 1

A new provision of the STOP Act, North Carolina’s opioid prescribing law, takes effect on Jan. 1, 2020, and will require certain controlled substances to be prescribed electronically. If you already e-prescribe controlled substances or NEVER prescribe controlled medications, you can disregard this message. However, if you prescribe controlled substances but do not e-prescribe, please review the details below carefully.

Adult Rapid Response Calls Go Silent Jan. 6, 2020

Starting Monday, Jan. 6 at 7 a.m., Adult Rapid Response code calls at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill will no longer be announced overhead. Hospital operators will be notifying Adult Rapid Response team members of emergent situations by both Vocera and pager. This change in practice will result in a quieter environment and will decrease the anxiety that patients and families experience when hearing overhead emergency calls.
