Sickle cell disease is an inherited red blood cell disorder that mostly affects people with African ancestry but it is also common in people with Hispanic heritage. Ms. Emilia Frederick MSN, RN, CEN, and lead nurse champion for Sickle Cell Disease and Asthma in the UNCH emergency department, will present the history of Sickle Cell Disease research and treatment and will discuss the attitudes of providers as well as resources available for empowering patients with SCD.
