UNC Health Care Commits to Signing the American Hospital Association Equity of Care Pledge

Recently, UNC Health Care System committed to signing the American Hospital Association's Equity of Care Pledge. This includes our hospitals and clinics, UNC Physicians Network and UNC Faculty Physicians.

The Equity of Care Pledge Campaign builds on the efforts of the National Call to Action to Eliminate Health Care Disparities and ensure equitable care for every person in every community.

The National Call to Action to Eliminate Health Care Disparities is an initiative launched in 2011 by the American Hospital Association, in partnership with the Institute for Diversity and Health Equity, Association of American Medical Colleges, American Colleges of Health Care Executives, America's Essential Hospitals and the Catholic Health Association of the United States.

The Equity of Care Pledge Campaign (#123forEquity) asks hospital and health system leaders to begin taking action to accelerate progress on the following areas:
•Increasing the collection and use of race, ethnicity, language preference and other socio-demographic data
•Increasing cultural competency training
•Increasing diversity in leadership and governance
•Improve and strengthen community partnerships

UNC Health Care joins several North Carolina Hospitals and Health Care systems in the commitment to health equity. Signing the pledge aligns with our organization's mission, vision, and values: Delivering quality care and outstanding service; pursuing the highest level of safety and quality; finding ways to improve the health of all North Carolinians.

Executive Champions have been identified and entities have started reviewing best practices, and formulating strategic action plans. You will start to hear more about these action plans in the coming months. Additional information about the Equity of Care Pledge Campaign can be found at http://www.equityofcare.org/.
