​Epic@UNC is now connected to the Georgia Regional Academic Community Health Information Exchange (GRAChIE)​ and the DaVita Health Information Exchange through the eHealthExchange, which means that this means that UNC Health Care providers can access clinical documentation from GRAChIE and DaVita patients in Epic@UNC directly in a patient’s chart.​

Providers: Save time using one-click access to Controlled Substances Reporting System (CSRS)

Providers can now check the prescription drug monitoring program (PDMP) with one-click in Epic@UNC. In the first week of use, more than 340 providers accessed more than 1,350 PDMP reports using this new functionality. Effective Friday, March 30, the My UNC Chart result release scheme is being updated to allow quicker release for outpatient point of care lab tests and normal, non-sensitive lab results. Flu Vaccine available to order for patients Sept. 1

On Thursday, Sept. 1, Flu vaccines will become available to order in Epic@UNC and administration to patients can begin. Starting Friday, Aug. 5, labels for pathology and cytology orders with a resulting agency of UNC Health Care Lab will only print after clicking the “Print Labels” button in Order Inquiry. Previously, labels would print at the time of release or if the order was placed as 'Normal.'

Starting Thursday, April 21, outpatient pathology and cytology collection at clinics using Beaker will now be done in the 'Order Inquiry' activity using the 'Collect Specimens' button. Users need to click the 'Collection Details' hyperlink to enter their collection information – see step #9 as described in this tip sheet. Additionally, users can now place 'Future' orders - the hard stop for ‘Collection Date’ and ‘Collection Time’ has been removed.

New ‘No Show’ letter closes loop with authorizing providers

Starting April 4, a new “No Show” letter in Epic@UNC can be sent to the authorizing provider when scheduling staff close a referral for which a patient did not show and is unable to be rescheduled. This letter helps communicate to the authorizing provider that the patient did not make the scheduled visit and is unable to be rescheduled.

Corrected Issues with Adult Pneumococcal Health Maintenance

On the afternoon of April 6, updates were made to the adult pneumococcal Health Maintenance Topics, Plans, and Best Practice Advisories (BPA) in Epic@UNC. Early this morning an issue was identified with the Health Maintenance Topics not appropriately recognizing past vaccinations, which may cause Health Maintenance to indicate a patient as past due for a vaccination and BPAs may inappropriately fire. Due to this we have temporarily turned off the associated pneumococcal BPAs for today. Please read about the Health Maintenance fix to this issue.

Providers - Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease risk calculator now in Epic@UNC

The 10-year ASCVD (Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease) Risk calculator is now available in Epic@UNC! The calculator uses the pooled cohort equations (Goff et al, 2013) to estimate the risk of developing a first-time ASCVD event within the next 10-year period for patients age 40 – 79 who do not already have clinical ASCVD.
