Scheduling/Registration Staff: What to Do When You Encounter Multiple Hospital Accounts (HARs)

When creating Hospital Accounts (HARs), scheduling/registration end-users will sometimes encounter a message saying “Assign Hospital Account.” This indicates that a HAR for another visit already exists and the visit being scheduled should be assigned (linked) to this existing HAR, instead of having a new HAR created. Providers: ‘Referral Class’ will no longer automatically update based on receiving provider selected in Referrals

Starting Tuesday, June 25, when using Provider Finder in Epic@UNC to make a referral, “Referral Class” will no longer update automatically in Epic@UNC based on the receiving provider selected. Moving forward, providers must update the “Referral Class” field if the referral is intended for an external provider (a provider not using Epic@UNC). We must make this change to ensure referrals are routed correctly most quickly.

Inpatient Providers: Medication Interactions Link now available within Order Sidebar

An “Interactions” link is now present at the top of the provider's "Manage Orders" sidebar. This link changes color and becomes active when a medication is ordered, and when clicked, displays the list of medication interactions prior to signing the order. This link will provide information on dosing, drug-drug, drug-allergy, drug-food and other patient safety related interactions. View details in this Tip Sheet.

UNC Health Care is enhancing patient's abilities to access Financial Counseling - starting Wednesday, June 5, a patients's request for financial counseling can be captured in Epic@UNC during scheduling or at check-in. Patients will still be able to request financial counseling by phone or via a referral process in addition to this new functionality.

Colorectal ERAS Clinical Pathway Now Available in Epic@UNC

On May 21, UNC Health Care launched its first Epic@UNC Clinical Pathway to support the growing Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) program. UNC Medical Center and UNC REX are early adopters of ERAS, which provides surgical patients with better patient outcomes and shorter hospital stays. Other leading hospital systems have used Epic’s Clinical Pathway functionality to improve patient outcomes and reduce unnecessary care variation.

If you are using a privately saved version of a report – such as the DAR or Today’s Patients Report – it’s possible that some of the Epic version 2018 changes may not have reached your private report. Before submitting a MySupport incident, please try generating a new private report from the appropriate public report, then deleting your old private report.
