Preview New View for Epic@UNC Patient Header (Storyboard) in the Epic@UNC Playground

On Jan. 26, the patient header in Epic@UNC is moving to the left side of the screen as part of our next Quarterly Release. Confirmed benefits of the new Storyboard view include saving clicks, reducing scrolling, making better use of widescreen space, and presenting the patient's 'story' in a consistent way.

OnBase Document Scanning/Retrieval Go-Live: Jan. 17-18, 2020

The OnBase Document Imaging System is scheduled to Go-Live the evening of Jan. 17-18, 2020. OnBase will replace Sovera as our enterprise-wide document imaging system. All users who scan, import, or view documents in Epic@UNC or Sovera will be impacted. View details at the link in the headline.

Providers who Prescribe Outpatient Controlled Substances: New Provision of STOP Act Requiring Controlled Substances to be E-Prescribed Takes Effect Jan. 1

A new provision of the STOP Act, North Carolina’s opioid prescribing law, takes effect on Jan. 1, 2020, and will require certain controlled substances to be prescribed electronically. If you already e-prescribe controlled substances or NEVER prescribe controlled medications, you can disregard this message. Updated Lab Specimen Labels

Beginning December 9, lab specimen labels will display the patient Preferred Name in quotations following the patient Legal Name. If the name is too long, an ellipse (***) will be displayed, indicating the name has been truncated. If you encounter any problems with the label format, please call the HELP desk at 984-974-4357. Subscriber Relationships for Insurance Coverage in Epic@UNC

​When coverage is entered in Epic@UNC for a patient, you must correctly identify the relationship between the patient and the subscriber of the policy. Providing the correct relationship is a CMS regulatory requirement to ensure that all claims filed have accurate subscriber relationships listed. To meet this requirement the subscriber relationship on new and existing coverages must be accurate and compliant. This process is different than how some staff had been trained to enter insurance coverages in the past and existing coverages may need to be updated. Find more information here.

CareSelect Imaging clinical decision support technology will go-live on Tuesday, Dec. 10, at all locations using Epic@UNC. CareSelect Imaging provides decision support when ordering advanced imaging exams (CT, MRI, and Nuclear Medicine/PET) directly within the provider's ordering workflow. Providers will continue use current processes to place/sign an advanced imaging order.

New Hospice Care Plans Available

There will be 9 new care plans available on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2019, specifically for use by staff at our SECU Hospice House UNC and Johnston. Everyone will be able to see these when searching for care plan templates but please refrain from using any care plan with ‘hospice’ in the name unless your patient is located in one of the SECU Hospice House facilities.
