New Patient Populations Identified in Epic@UNC with Value Care Banner in early May

Starting in early May 2019, new green-colored banners will identify patients aligned to an exclusive or narrow network Value plan. These plans include Cigna Connect ACA and BCBS Blue Value ACA. These two patient populations have limited or no out-of-network coverage, and their care should remain with a UNC Health Alliance provider or facility. Find more information here.

Scheduling/Registration staff: Don't change default Guarantor name when creating a Workers Comp Guarantor Account on Registration page

When creating a Worker’s Compensation (W/C) Guarantor Account on the Registration page (also known as the Interactive Face Sheet), Epic@UNC automatically names the W/C Guarantor to reflect injury date and employer where the patient was injured. Please do not change the default W/C Guarantor name to the patient name or any other format.

Medicare Query Chaining Available in RTE Response – April 9

On April 9, Medicare query chaining in Real Time Eligibility (RTE) will begin. When an RTE is run for Medicare Part A & B, and there is adequate information available, the return may dictate that the patient has a Medicare Advantage plan. If so, a query will be sent to the Medicare Advantage payor and coverage can be created from the response. For more information, please see this Tip Sheet.

To help identify patients that have served, or are serving in the military, starting April 6, Epic@UNC will have two fields to denote a patient’s veteran status and their branch of service. New ‘Activity’ Order Effective April 6 with Epic@UNC Upgrade

Starting Saturday morning, April 6, inpatient nurses and providers will see a new ‘Activity’ order (NUR304001) encompassing multiple prior Activity orders (see at the link). Following this change, when a new Activity order is written, the old/previous Activity order will be discontinued to ensure there is only one active order at a time.

Updated RTE Response for Patients with Medicare and a Secondary Payor Begins April 9

On April 9 Epic@UNC will indicate Medicare’s filing order on both the Interactive Face Sheet and in the RTE response history. Please view the RTE Response: Medicare Secondary to Payor tip sheet for examples of this feature. Please note that the Medicare Secondary Payor Questionnaire must still be completed when prompted.

Coming April 6: Widescreen view required for multiple specialties

​​The April 6 Epic@UNC Upgrade will include a switch from the “traditional” view to the “widescreen” view for a subset of providers (see full list below). With the “widescreen” view, users will no longer have the ability to use the Visit Navigator view. This is a required change by Epic in an attempt to increase the clinical workspace area and reduce scrolling.
